Deer Park Country House, Luxury Devon Wedding Venue

Does your fairytale Devon wedding include the luxury of a country house, with beautiful gardens, intimate ceremony spaces and a menu inspired by homegrown produce?

It does? Welcome to Deer Park Country House

I visited The Deer Park Country House recently and if your idea of a perfect wedding day is of creative, relaxed, country house luxury, this might be right up your aisle.

Sitting in beautiful grounds in Buckerell, East Devon, you approach the Deer Park Country House along a winding drive, with helpful signs that count-down the bends for you.

The first thing you notice as you approach the house is a thatched treehouse nestled in the boughs of a giant old tree. Which gives you a clue to the sense of fun that the venue has.

The house itself is decorated with understated, vintage glamour. There’s a sporting theme throughout with pictures of sporting heroes across the centuries hanging on the walls. Olympic torches from 1948 and 2012 hang on the wall of the entrance hall.

On the ground-floor of the house is, the orangery and conservatory, a dining room and two drawing rooms. My favourite space in the house is the bright conservatory room that has plants from ceiling to floor, and links the main building to the orangery.

But for me, if I was getting married (again) I’d choose the Deer Park Country House for its outside spaces.

At the bottom of one lawn, past the fountain, you’ll find a patio with seating. An outdoor kitchen with pizza oven makes this a great spot for a relaxed supper the night before a wedding or an informal lunch party or late night snack station for the reception night.

My favourite space is the summerhouse. It looks like a miniature country cottage with it’s thatched roof, wooden walls and pretty pillared veranda.

There’s a wisteria wrapped tunnel that leads up to a paved ceremony space and grassy picnic lawn. Imagine standing with your sweetheart in front of the thatched summerhouse. Your friends and family seated around, celebrating as you say your vows. Followed by a picnic on the lawn with bespoke cocktails and fizz.

With this year’s big trend towards Garden Party Weddings, the Deer Park Country House has the beautiful outdoor spaces to please all kinds of style. Whether you want like fairytale romance, boho bride or old school glamour I can work with you to create a ceremony that tells your love story and sits at the centre of your wedding day.

The venue is licenced for registrars for the legal bit of your wedding. And, if you use an independent celebrant for your ceremony you have the flexibility to choose any part of the garden or house that inspires you for your unique wedding ceremony.

Even on a February day the gardens are magical and so easy to imagine for a garden party wedding with a picnic from the house’s walled garden.

Have I not mentioned the walled garden? As a keen but often inept gardener, a walled garden with greenhouses is my dream. A wedding ceremony in the vegetable plot would be a fun idea for the green fingered couple.

The walled garden also inspires much of the menu at the Deer Park which contributes to the sense of stepping into a luxurious and magical bubble.

Accommodation at the Deer Park Country House includes the bedrooms in the house, self catering cottages and the Playhouse; a purpose built retreat house. Don’t forget the treehouse, a thatched hideaway with roll top bath, wood burner and wraparound balcony. Perfect for your first night as a married couple to hideaway under the stars.

The staff at the Deer Park Country House are super friendly and helpful. I’ve attended several events there and they’re always been perfection and fun.

I’m a fan, but I’m not the only one. The Deer Park Country House has won the Condé Nast Johansens 2023 award for the venue ‘Best for Weddings, Parties & Special Occasions‘.
