Rockbeare Manor, Romantic Devon Wedding Venue
Do you imagine your dream wedding to be in a romantic country house with luxurious rooms, a sunlit ceremony and with breathtaking Devon vistas?
If that souds like you, welcome to Rockbeare Manor!
Set in a quaint Devon village of Rockbeare, Rockbeare Manor is a Grade I listed Regency manor house. Think Jane Austen, Bridgerton, high waisted dresses and gossiping behind fans. The building is steeped in history and has been beautifully restored to reference its heritage while catering to the modern wedding couple’s needs.
I’m going to pause here to remind you that I am not a professional photographer and that it was a very cloudy day when I visited. My photos don’t do the venue justice at all, but I hope they give you a taste of the place.
As you approach the house you’re struck by the imposing and elegant frontage, sitting on top of the slope of the gardens. When you enter you get a sense of informal opulence, with each room having its own character.
Downstairs the vestibule has very comfy sofas in front of a marble fireplace. To the right of the vestibule is the library with views over the gardens and to the left, the billiard room with billiard tables and the atmospheric nod towards the times when men would retreat after dinner to smoke, drink brandy and talk about important manly things.
A sweeping staircase leads you upstairs to the bedroooms and an elegant drawing room with a balcony that opens to views across the parkland and across to the Haldon Hills.
Stay downstairs and along the corridor you pass a light filled atrium, elegant bar and chandelier lit dining room until you reach the breathtaking main ballroom.
Clean white walls with stunning plasterwork, the room is flooded with light from the south facing windows that look out over the garden. It’s easy to imagine this as your ceremony space with your guests sitting in rows of pretty seats and crystal chandeliers overhead.
Or set up with for an elegant banquet with floral arrangements and glittering table settings.
The ballroom isn’t the only choice for your wedding ceremony at the Manor. The building itself could provide the backdrop to a ceremony on the steps of the building with your friends and family seated on the gravel drive with the beautiful Devon countryside behind them (gravel doesn’t sound sexy, but check out this gorgeous wedding)
Or, where I would choose if it was my wedding, there’s the South Pavilion. A small sunlight room with citrus trees in it, it would be perfect for an intimate wedding or vow renewal in the room, or open up the French doors and have your guests seated outside with the pavilion as your backdrop.
The grounds at Rockbear are simple, rolling lawns with beautiful planting and paths to lead you through them and views across Dartmoor.
Rockbeare Manor is a wonderful and adaptable venue for your romantic celebrant led wedding and is licensed so you could have registrar there too to do the legal bit if you wanted.
Its elegant style lends itself to all kinds of wedding styles, from full on Regency Revival, to black tie formals, vintage themed or relaxed country weekend.
As ever the only limit is your imagination (and budget)
Rockbeare Manor offers its wedding couples exclusive use of the venue for their day, and includes 13 luxurious rooms in the house, including two family rooms and a thoughtfully designed accessible ground floor suite.
There is also The Dairy, a self catering cottage that’s perfect for bride or groom to prepare with their entourage, or for the happy couple to have as a quite refuge in the run up to the big day.
Thank you to Davy, the Events Manager, for showing me around, and to all the staff at Rockbeare Manor who were friendly and hospitable when I visited. I wholeheartedly recommend the brownie bites that came with my cup of tea. You’re undoubtedly in for a feast with the catering!
