Find your perfect wedding celebrant in 5 simple steps

The  perfect wedding celebrant  helps make your wedding unique and perfectly you.

You’re engaged! Congratulations! How very exciting.

There’s a lot to organise so that you and your guests can have the perfect, memorable day. The venue, the decor, the food, the dancing, the guest list, and at the centre of it all is the ceremony.

Choosing the right celebrant for you means that you’ll get the perfect person to tell your love story. They’ll help create an unforgettable and unique experience for you and your guests.

You might have already Googled “how to find a wedding celebrant” and be way ahead of me, but if not here are five steps for how to find the perfect wedding celebrant for your perfect wedding.

1 – Make your “must haves” for your perfect wedding plan

Working out what’s important to you, and any must haves for your wedding, will help you find your perfect celebrant.

It is important to have ideas about date, budget and location before you begin. With those decided you can work out what you want your ceremony to feel and look like.

Here are some prompts…

  • Are there themes that you’d like to incorporate?
  • People or pets that need to include?
  • Rituals or items of significance that you’d like to use?
  • What are your values and how can they be expressed at your wedding?

Spend time with your partner digging into what makes a ceremony meaningful and unique to you as a couple.

Once you have your “must have” list it becomes much easier to find your perfect celebrant.

2 – Make your perfect wedding celebrant long list

Now it’s time to do your research. Fire up the Google machine and exercise your typing fingers to create a long list of celebrants. As well as individual websites there are lots of wedding supplier guides and directories to search through.

You can also ask friends, venues and wedding suppliers for recommendations.

Have a nose at celebrants’ websites to see if they fit the broad feel you’re going for

A celebrant that specialises in high end boutique hotel weddings might not be the best match for you if you’re after a comic-con inspired ceremony.

3 – Turn your long list into a short list

Use your must haves to whittle down the long list to a short list.

Have a good nose through the celebrants’ websites. What do they tell you about themselves that makes them a good fit, or not such a good fit?

A good question to ask yourself is, “do the weddings in their portfolio look like ones I’d like to go to?”

4 – Meet the celebrants on your short list

Once you’ve whittled down your long list, it’s time to start talking to your short list.

You may be happy to dive straight into Zoom calls, or you may want to send an email or DM and have a bit of a chat before arranging a meeting.

In the meetings pay attention to how the celebrant makes you feel. It’s important to feel comfortable with this person as they will be central to one of the most meaningful days of your life.

Perhaps, you value fun and so need a celebrant that gets your sense of humour? Or you’re looking for someone that is progressive and open minded to welcome a chosen family? Maybe you want someone that is happy to include a religious element into the ceremony?

5 – Time to decide

Once you’ve had initial zoom meetings with your short list, it’s time to decide.

Who matched your must have list and who did you get on with?

Who did you vibe with and who can you imagine standing in the room with you leading your unique wedding ceremony?

What happens next?

Congratulations, you’ve found your perfect wedding celebrant.

Now it’s time for the fun and the work to begin. The next step will be to arrange a planning meeting with them when you will all get to know each other, and share your wedding vision.

They will ask you lots of questions and help you brainstorm ideas. Then off they’ll go and work their magic to create a unique ceremony that reflects everything that makes you and your relationship special.
